Ukraine. No longer emotional.
The title above refers to my blog of 1 March 2022, “Ukraine. An Emotional Statement.”
We are now at the one year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Urkaine. One year of carnage, blustery, hope but mostly utter, needless and devastating destruction - of lives, and limb; of structures and states.
It is unfathomable that the war is still going on. That the the killing of souls and senses is still ongoing.
The carnage and destruction have gone hand in hand with funding the rescue of victims, and a broad swath of nations selling and shipping arms. What makes this world go ‘round is as usual a combination of those who want to save people and those who want to kill them. The charitable world finds itself on the frontline of these atrocities, raising funds to provide assistance on the battlefield, in shelled and ruined cities, providing shelter or receiving refugees in other countries. The profitable world are in offices managing orders and manufacturing of weapons, to the benefit of corporate entities. Both sectors are moving money, but in different direction.
War is never a single act; it involves many actors and activities, simultaneously contradicting each other but joined in equal parts in the pursuit of earning and spending; of conquering and embracing. The money train comes loaded with tanks, and with relief.
An unprovoked attack is always wrong; defending yourself is always right.
The shortness of this post only reflects the utility of it all - if brief, we would be able to recoup; if extended, we will ultimately lose more than we lost.
Slava Ukraini.
